MINUTES: NRVBA MEETING OCTOBER 2011

Minutes from the September meeting were approved with the amendment to the announcement of the Radford “So you want to be a beekeeper” session: time should be 2 PM instead of 1 PM.
Reports and announcements
President reported a need for officer nominations, especially for president. Also need active members for committees.
Treasurer reported $3475.36 available balance.
Jack Price’s email re bee package purchase: Tim Holt of Mount Airy, NC, can put together packages of three pounds of bees plus a queen for $59. Do we want to order packages again next year? Yes. Jack and Mark Chorba will investigate.
Sam Price: there are full bee suits with fencer-style helmets, leather/cotton gloves, hive tool, brush all for $79, no shipping/handling.
Mark Chorba spoke about the Virginia Tech Bug Fest on Saturday (Oct. 15). There will be a big tent for a beekeeping demo. Mark will be there and he’d like help. Lasts from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Mark also spoke about the Master Beekeeper program that Dr. Rick Fell is setting up. He will give it to NRVBA members for free. There will be three levels: beginner, intermediate, master. Details need to be set but are members present interested? Yes; need to work out a time to start. It will be through the VCE just like the other Master classes.
Dave Knight and Richard Reid gave presentations on extractions they’ve done this past year.
